Shelton completes the recovery

Ben Shelton defeated Arthur Rinderknech 3–6, 6–4, 7–6 at the Rolex Paris Masters on Thursday, 5 November. ESPN’s tournament record marks the match completed and Shelton as the winner.

Rinderknech won the opening set by three games. Shelton levelled with a 6–4 second set, before the decider reached six games apiece. The scoring record gives Shelton the final tiebreak 7–5.

Why the finish matters

Our reading: the result separates the recovery from the close finish. Taking the second set kept Shelton in the match, but he still needed the deciding tiebreak to complete the win. A two-point margin in that tiebreak is the clearest measure of how narrowly the final set was decided.

The set scores support that sequence. They do not establish which changes in serving, returning or rally patterns produced the turnaround, so those tactical details remain outside this report.
