Sassuolo 2–4 Fiorentina: Mastantuono and Valde settle a six-goal contest
Laurienté scores twice for Sassuolo, but Fiorentina win 4–2. Mastantuono restores the visitors’ lead before Valde adds a stoppage-time fourth.
Fiorentina’s 4–2 win is confirmed
Fiorentina beat Sassuolo 4–2 at the Mapei Stadium on 2 November. Franco Mastantuono scored the decisive third goal before Valde added a fourth in stoppage time. ESPN’s completed match record confirmed full time at the 19:25 UTC (21:25 CAT) check.
How the six goals unfolded
Armand Laurienté put Sassuolo ahead in the 25th minute, assisted by Sebastiano Esposito. Mateo Pellegrino equalised in the second minute of first-half stoppage time from Alieu Njie’s assist. Njie then gave Fiorentina the lead in the 50th minute, with Marco Brescianini credited with the assist.
The final event record includes Laurienté’s second goal in the 65th minute, assisted by Nemanja Matic and confirmed after VAR review, to make it 2–2. Mastantuono restored Fiorentina’s lead in the 79th minute from Pote’s assist. Valde completed the scoring in the third minute of second-half stoppage time, assisted by Cher Ndour.
More attempts outweighed less possession
Fiorentina finished with 15 attempts and six shots on target, compared with Sassuolo’s six attempts and two on target. Sassuolo had 58.2% possession, while the visitors had 41.8%.
Our reading: Fiorentina’s greater shooting output gave them a stronger attacking return despite having less of the ball. Njie contributed a goal and an assist either side of half-time, and the late goals from Mastantuono and Valde settled a contest that had been level twice after the opener.
