Racing 0–3 Real Madrid: three first-half goals, three different routes to the lead
Mbappé’s penalty, Bellingham’s finish from Güler’s pass and Diomande’s strike after a corner built a three-goal lead before half-time. Madrid protected it to the finish.
Real Madrid won 3–0 away to Racing Santander on 1 November, scoring all three goals before half-time. Kylian Mbappé converted an 11th-minute penalty, Jude Bellingham scored after 21 minutes and Yan Diomande added the third in the 36th.
The goals did not depend on one route
The ESPN event record describes Mbappé scoring from the spot, Bellingham finishing from Arda Güler’s through ball, and Diomande striking from outside the penalty area following a corner.
Our reading is that the variety matters. A penalty, a pass through the defence and a shooting opportunity after a restart pose different defensive problems. Racing could not resolve the first half simply by correcting a single repeated pattern. The sequence also gave Madrid a substantial lead with more than half the match still to play.
The shooting gap supports the scoreline
Madrid finished with 22 shots to Racing’s ten and seven on target to one. Their possession advantage was smaller: 53.7 per cent against 46.3.
Those numbers help explain why the match should not be reduced to who kept the ball. Racing had a sizeable share of possession, but much less of the recorded threat on target. The score, event sequence and shooting totals point in the same direction here, while describing different aspects of the performance.
Valencia is next in the league
The confirmed fixture list places Madrid away to Valencia on 7 November at 20:00 UTC (22:00 CAT). The follow-up question is whether Madrid can reproduce that range of attacking solutions against a new opponent, after turning this first-half advantage into a clean-sheet victory.
