The counterargument to a City win is especially strong if Maresca's rotation affects both the line that recovers possession and the line that turns it into a chance. A side can press hard without protecting its own rest defence; it can also keep the ball without moving a compact opponent. City's recent five-game winning run across league and Champions League, noted in the club's viewing guide, says the first-choice structure has been productive.
