Anderlecht 2–0 Salzburg: Augustinsson free-kick and Winkler counter settle contest
Ludwig Augustinsson scored after 20 minutes and Marten Winkler sealed victory in the 90th. Salzburg’s late search for an equaliser ended in a second concession.
Anderlecht beat Salzburg 2–0 at Lotto Park on 5 November. Ludwig Augustinsson opened the scoring with a direct free-kick in the 20th minute, and substitute Marten Winkler finished a counterattack in the 90th.
One-goal margin kept the contest open
Salzburg’s official report records no first-half shot from the visitors and credits goalkeeper Christian Zawieschitzky with important saves before the break. That kept the deficit at 1–0 despite a difficult opening half.
Tim Drexler had Salzburg’s best equalising opportunity in the 84th minute, but his effort was stopped. Anderlecht then punished the visitors’ late attacking push, with Winkler supplying the decisive second goal.
Why the finish matters
Our analysis: a 2–0 scoreline can hide how long a match remained within reach. Anderlecht had to protect a narrow lead until the closing minutes, while Salzburg’s goalkeeper kept an equaliser relevant. The final counter converted that unresolved contest into a clear result.
For Anderlecht, the win follows their 3–0 European victory over Jagiellonia and extends that response after two opening defeats. Salzburg’s challenge is to create enough threat earlier, rather than depend on a late recovery.
