Hamburg beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 3–1 at the Volksparkstadion on Friday, 6 November. ESPN’s completed match record confirms the result.

The decisive sequence

Miro Muheim opened the scoring in the 11th minute, but Gladbach equalised in the 44th to make it 1–1 at half-time.

The Bundesliga’s official timeline records Kō Itakura’s second yellow card in the 49th minute after a foul on David Møller Wolfe. Shafiq Nandja restored Hamburg’s lead in the 60th, and Albert Grønbæk made it 3–1 with a long-range finish in the 70th.

Why the second goal mattered

Our analysis: the dismissal changed the balance of available players, but the score was still level. Nandja’s finish turned that numerical advantage into a lead; Grønbæk’s goal ten minutes later gave Hamburg a two-goal margin.

That distinction matters when assessing the win. The red card created an opportunity, while the two subsequent finishes converted it into a result. Gladbach’s equaliser had kept the contest open through half-time, so Hamburg still had work to do after the restart.
