Falkirk 2–0 Celtic: Ross and Tanser give Bain’s saves a lead to protect
Two first-half goals settled the scoreline despite Celtic’s 24 shots. Falkirk’s finishing and nine saves explain different parts of the same win.
Falkirk beat Celtic 2–0 at Falkirk Stadium on 1 November. Ethan Ross scored in the third minute and Scott Tanser added the second after 38 minutes, giving the home side a two-goal lead before the interval.
The score and the pressure tell different stories
The ESPN match record lists Celtic with 70.2 per cent possession and 24 shots, nine on target. Falkirk had six attempts, two on target, and the home goalkeeper recorded nine saves.
Our reading is that the win needs both halves of that evidence. Falkirk’s scoring gave them an advantage to defend; the saves helped preserve it. Calling the result only a finishing story would overlook the work required after the goals. Calling it only a defensive escape would overlook that Falkirk had already put Celtic two goals behind.
An early goal changed the task
Ross’s opener meant Celtic were chasing for almost the entire match. Tanser’s goal increased the deficit before half-time. That sequence explains the problem Celtic faced without assuming that possession alone should have solved it.
The shot totals show substantial attacking volume, but they do not establish the quality of every opportunity. A reliable expected-goals figure is not used here. The supported conclusion is narrower: Celtic generated attempts and forced saves, while Falkirk converted the two efforts on target recorded in the source.
