The Football Association has confirmed 40 ties for the 2026–27 Emirates FA Cup first round proper, scheduled across the weekend of Saturday 7 November. League One and League Two clubs enter at this stage, alongside teams who came through qualifying. The draw gives supporters a route map, not a complete fixture list: 11 fourth-round qualifying replays are due on Tuesday 20 October, and the FA has not yet announced individual kickoff times or broadcast selections. That distinction matters more than treating every line of the draw as a settled appointment.
Which pairings are already clear?
Oxford City will host Leicester City, Kidderminster Harriers will host Doncaster Rovers, and Hornchurch will host Blackpool. York City against Northampton Town and Huddersfield Town against Exeter City are also named in full. These ties give both clubs an opponent and the first-named club the home designation. They do not yet give a verified date and time beyond the first-round weekend. A reader planning travel or coverage should wait for the FA and clubs to publish the actual schedule, rather than converting the default Saturday into an assumed kickoff.
The named fixtures also show why the draw is about competitive context, not a prediction. A home club may be able to shape the match through its familiar surroundings and preparation; the visiting club still brings its own squad and a route into the same next round. The draw alone says nothing reliable about form, selection, injuries or the probability of an upset. Calling Oxford City–Leicester City a possible story is fair; calling it a likely giant-killing before the teams play is not evidence-based.
What do the “or” entries mean?
Other lines are conditional because a qualifying place is not resolved. Mansfield Town are drawn at home to Macclesfield or Anstey Nomads; Luton Town will host Chesham United or Forest Green Rovers. Barnsley await Aldershot or Tadley Calleva, while Bedford Town or Cray Wanderers will host Stockport County. The “or” is not a stylistic flourish: one of those teams still has to earn the place. The FA says 11 replays on 20 October will decide outstanding fourth-round qualifying ties. Until those results are official, naming either possible club as a confirmed first-round participant would mislead readers.
This uncertainty affects more than a line in a fixture list. An unresolved club cannot yet be given a definitive opponent-specific preview, and a tentative trip cannot be treated as a confirmed journey. It is better to follow the qualifying results first, then assess the actual first-round matchup and its tactical questions. Our football coverage will treat confirmed opponents and kickoff details separately from the draw itself.
Why the first round matters before a ball is kicked
The FA lists £47,750 from the prize fund for a winning club at this stage and £15,800 for a losing club. Those amounts make advancement materially significant, but they are not a measure of a club's finances or an assurance about the result. The sporting prize is simpler: a place in the next round. With 40 ties on the board, the competition now brings EFL entrants and qualifying survivors into the same knockout phase. The first round can generate mismatches, close contests and surprise results, but the draw is only the starting structure.
For now, the useful answer is precise and limited. The full pairing list is on the FA's official draw page; the round is set for the 7 November weekend; some places depend on 20 October replays; and individual match times and television arrangements remain to be announced. Once those details are confirmed, the attention can shift from who may meet to how the actual teams might contest the tie.
