Wings 103–91 Storm: Shepard’s triple-double unlocked Dallas
Jessica Shepard’s 20-point triple-double powered 32 Dallas assists as the Wings used a 29–12 first quarter to beat Seattle 103–91.
Final — Thursday 24 September 2026: The Dallas Wings beat the Seattle Storm 103–91 at Climate Pledge Arena in the teams' regular-season finale. Dallas led 29–12 after the first quarter and never trailed after establishing that early separation. Jessica Shepard recorded 20 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists, while Paige Bueckers scored 25 and Arike Ogunbowale added 23.
Shepard made Dallas difficult to load up against
The most useful number in the official box score is not only Shepard's triple-double. It is Dallas's 32 assists on 39 made field goals. Shepard supplied 12 of those assists from the centre position, which meant Seattle could not treat her touches as a pause before an interior shot. A defender helping toward Bueckers or Ogunbowale risked leaving a cutter or shooter available to Shepard's next pass.
That distribution produced a balanced problem. Bueckers shot 9-of-15 and added seven assists; Ogunbowale went 8-of-15 with six assists; Shepard made nine of 12 attempts. Awak Kuier then stretched the floor with four three-pointers. Dallas did not ask one scorer to defeat the same coverage repeatedly. The Wings moved the defensive decision from player to player until a clean finish appeared.
The first quarter created the margin
Dallas won the opening quarter 29–12, a 17-point advantage in a game eventually decided by 12. Seattle answered by winning the second quarter 30–20, so the Storm did show that the matchup could be competitive once their offence settled. But Dallas had already bought enough margin to absorb that response and still lead at halftime.
The Wings' 56.5% shooting and 50% return from three were unusually efficient, but the shot quality was connected to the passing. Dallas also scored 48 points in the paint, so the perimeter percentage did not come from abandoning the rim. Seattle had to protect both areas, and the Wings kept finding whichever choice the defence had left open.
Seattle's young scorers answered, but not together soon enough
Dominique Malonga led Seattle with 29 points and eight rebounds, Awa Fam scored 22, and Flau'jae Johnson added 21 points, six rebounds and four assists. Those performances explain why the Storm recovered from the opening quarter rather than allowing the game to become a rout. Natisha Hiedeman's 14 assists also gave Seattle a genuine organising presence.
The counterargument is that Seattle's 91 points and 50% overall shooting should have been enough to keep the game closer. The problem was comparative efficiency. Seattle made eight of 23 three-pointers and 15 of 23 free throws; Dallas made nine of 18 threes and 16 of 19 free throws. Turnovers were level at 13, so Seattle did not lose because of a large possession deficit. Dallas simply extracted more value from similar opportunities.
What the 103–91 result says about Dallas
This was not merely a hot-shooting night disguised as a complete performance. Dallas paired the shooting with 32 assists, five blocks and a small rebounding edge, 33–30. The repeatable part is the decision-making: Shepard creating from the middle, Bueckers and Ogunbowale alternating between scoring and passing, and Kuier forcing the defence to respect the arc.
The caution is that 50% three-point shooting cannot be assumed in the postseason. When that percentage falls, Dallas will need the same passing structure to create paint touches and free throws. Shepard's role matters precisely because it offers a route to good offence that does not depend on one guard making a difficult shot.
Conclusion: The Wings won the regular-season finale by creating a 17-point first-quarter cushion and then sharing the work required to protect it. Shepard's triple-double was the centre of the performance, but its value was collective: her passing made Bueckers, Ogunbowale and Kuier easier to find, while Seattle's three 20-point scorers were left chasing a margin established before their response began.
