Milwaukee visit Pittsburgh at PNC Park on Tuesday 15 September 2026. MLB's schedule lists first pitch for 6:40 p.m. EDT, which is 00:40 CAT on Wednesday 16 September. The game is scheduled for Roberto Clemente Day. MLB lists the Brewers at 93–57 and the Pirates at 75–75.

Misiorowski can remove the defence from the first decision

MLB's current Brewers statistics give Misiorowski a 14–5 record, 1.95 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 236 strikeouts in 161⅓ innings. Strikeouts matter here because the ball never asks a fielder to complete the out. A pitcher who misses bats can reduce the number of defensive decisions required before Milwaukee return to the plate.

That does not make the defence optional. Misiorowski has also issued 41 walks, and every ball put in play still has to be handled. A free baserunner changes the cost of the next contact. Our preferred Milwaukee approach is therefore not simply “throw harder”; it is using early strikes to keep the secondary pitches available without gifting Pittsburgh an inning that begins with traffic.

The fastball creates choices for the other pitches

MLB's National League Cy Young review records 1,010 Misiorowski pitches at 100 mph or faster through its 10 September cutoff—far beyond the previous pitch-tracking-era single-season record. It also notes that he responded to his worst start of the year by allowing one run over 6⅓ innings against the Cubs with nine strikeouts.

The number explains the problem but not the whole solution. A hitter preparing only for velocity can become vulnerable to a slower or differently shaped pitch; a hitter waiting for the secondary pitch can be late on the fastball. Misiorowski's advantage is the decision gap between those possibilities. Pittsburgh's best counter is to make the strike zone as small as discipline allows, rather than treating every triple-digit pitch as one that must be attacked.

There is a limit to that plan. Taking pitches does not help if Misiorowski is ahead in the count, and long at-bats are not victories unless they improve the next decision. The Pirates need selective aggression: avoid expanding the zone, but be ready when a hittable pitch arrives before the count becomes defensive.

Milwaukee still have something to manage after clinching

MLB's clinch report says Milwaukee secured an eighth postseason trip in nine years with a 20–0 win over Cincinnati. The Brewers had 92 wins that night and still had the division title and postseason position to pursue. Tuesday's game therefore sits between two priorities: keep competing for a favourable October route and avoid treating every regular-season inning as if nothing follows it.

That tension matters most around the starter's workload. A dominant early line does not guarantee Milwaukee will ask Misiorowski to chase every possible inning. The club has reasons to value both the current game and the condition in which its leading pitcher reaches October. We will not invent a pitch limit; the useful live question is how quickly he can create outs without unnecessary baserunners.

Our Brewers–Pirates prediction

We lean Milwaukee if Misiorowski starts. His strikeout rate and season-long run prevention give the Brewers a route to controlling innings before Pittsburgh can use the field. Milwaukee's stronger record and completed postseason qualification add context, but they do not guarantee a result in one baseball game.

The countercase begins with uncertainty. Pittsburgh's starter was unconfirmed at our source check, lineups were not yet official, and a single walk, error or extra-base hit can overturn a good pitching sequence. We make no exact-score prediction. We would revise the preference if Misiorowski is scratched, significantly limited, or if confirmed lineups remove important Milwaukee offence.

The question worth carrying into first pitch is not how many radar-gun readings exceed 100. It is whether Misiorowski's early strikes make Pittsburgh commit before hitters can identify the pitch they actually want.
