Our view is that preventing free baserunners deserves priority over finding a scapegoat for the final ground ball. With the bases full, a defence has a force available at every base, but a hitter also has more ways to produce a run. The pitcher's margin for a miss shrinks: a walk itself becomes decisive.

The counterargument is the closeness of the finish. One infield hit is a poor basis for declaring an entire bullpen broken. Reviewing pitch selection and execution is more useful than assuming a different reliever would automatically have produced a different result.
