Rodri will miss Sunday’s trip

Barcelona confirmed on 4 November that Rodri has a minor injury to the right hamstring, specifically the biceps femoris muscle. Tests followed discomfort during the Aston Villa match. The club has ruled him out of Sunday’s visit to Atlético Madrid and says his recovery time depends on how the injury develops.

That confirms his absence for one fixture. It does not establish a fixed return date or confirm how many further matches he will miss.

A different selection question after Villa

Barcelona beat Aston Villa 3–0 on 3 November, with Lamine Yamal scoring once and Raphinha twice, according to the club’s match report. The next league game is away to Atlético at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on 8 November at 21:00 CET (20:00 UTC; 22:00 CAT).

Our reading: the result and the injury pose separate questions. The Villa win supplies recent match context; Rodri’s absence requires a midfield selection decision for Sunday. Fariñas’ earlier appearance at right-back adds squad context, but does not by itself identify who should replace a midfielder.

The earlier Alavés milestone

Barcelona beat Alavés 6–1 at Spotify Camp Nou on 31 October, and the result also brought a first-team milestone: Brian Fariñas started at right-back and completed the full match on his debut.

A midfield education, a different assignment

The club’s debut report describes Fariñas as a player developed through its youth system and notes that he had already played at right-back in pre-season. This was therefore a competitive first appearance in a role he had tried before, rather than evidence of a permanent positional change.

Our reading is that the useful question comes after the scoreline: can an additional option at right-back help Barcelona manage the next sequence of matches? One successful appearance broadens the discussion, but a comfortable win cannot establish how the same player would cope with every defensive assignment.
